What is a Palo Alto Neighborhood Green Team?

Palo Alto Neighborhood Green Teams are neighbors coming together to share ideas and take action to lower our carbon footprint and make our neighborhoods more sustainable. We have Green Teams in schools, and in businesses, why not in our neighborhoods!

Examples of recent projects include: a Green Home Tour, classes on lowering carbon footprint, Bike Palo Alto!, greening our local neighborhood events and much more! In addition to taking action, it is also an opportunity to meet your neighbors and have fun! For more information please visit our project pages or your neighborhood Green Team page above.

This project starts with neighbors in Palo Alto - with you! If you are interested in getting involved, please contact the organizer on your neighborhood page to get started. If your neighborhood is not yet organized, please e-mail us at info@pagreenteams.org.

Join in, help the planet and have fun!

Bike Palo Alto! 2012

Our Third Annual Bike Palo Alto! on October 7, 2012 event was a great success!  We had over 600 participants join in and spend an afternoon enjoying Palo Alto's great bike routes!   Participants also received local biking and safety information and joined in on activities including helmet fitting, bike maintenance and children's activities provided by the YMCA.  This year we were joined by Mayor Yeh and the Mayor's Challenge!  Thank you to Mayor Yeh, Councilmembers, sponsors, volunteers and participants for making our event a success this year.  We hope all participants will choose their bikes more often for local trips!  Look for more information here next summer for plans on our Bike Palo Alto! event in 2013.

Join the Neighborhood Mini-Can Challenge!

Join the Mini-Can challenge and help your neighborhood be the first to reach 50%!  On Earth Day, April 22nd, 2011 the Green Teams launched the Neighborhood Mini-Can Challenge. Mini cans are the smallest container size (20 gal.) for garbage service in Palo Alto. Switching to a mini-can saves money and reduces the amount of garbage sent to the landfill, helping the environment!  In the first nine months of the challenge we had great success, increasing mini-can use an average of 7% in participating neighborhoods.  No one has hit 50% yet, so there is still a chance to have your neighborhood win bragging rights!
